the nominees for the unofficial late night with jimmy fallon announcer auditions

late_night_with_jimmy_fallon_logo_copyrightNBC

With my sincere thanks to the 80 participants in this faux-dition and the gracious judges (all of whom admitted to some tough decisions) there are now terrific 10 nominees for you to vote on.

First, a little housekeeping (PLEASE READ)

THE RULES FOR VOTING ON NOMINEES

1. The decision of audio’connell voice over talent is final

2. Nobody has a chance to get the real announcer job at Late Night With Jimmy Fallon because of this unofficial and very silly contest…plus the job has already been filled

3. Please choose your top three choices, numbering them 1, 2, 3 with your first choice (1) being your favorite (three different announcers, not three votes for one person, etc.)

4. Type your vote in the comment section of this blog post below

5. You may only vote once and you are on the honor system

6. Voting will end when I say it does, probably a couple of weeks I’m guessing

OK, the floor is yours. Have fun! Click HERE to listen to the nominees then please come back to vote below in the comment box.

  2. I’m boycotting the vote! What? No chicks as finalists? Come on…

  3. Hi Jamee:

Thanks for bringing that up. While I am not planning on revealing the who the 3 judges were, they are professional, working and recognized voice talents and producers.

And of the 3, 2 were women. And none, as far as I know at this writing, knows who the others are.

Their task was to pick the best 15 out of 80 nominees. The only rule they followed was that they could not include me as a nominee.

They voted based on a point system that I established.

Based on those point totals, I’ve presented the 10 best. And there were no women in the top 10 this time.

I’m sorry to hear of your boycott (or girlcott, if you will) but maybe this can stir up some publicity, er, controversy!

    I hope we’re still friends.

    Best always,
    - Peter

  4. Of course we’re still friends, Peter.

  5. I’m still not voting.

  6. Don’t know what happened with this post, but here is the entire list. (I guess Elder won’t get two votes from this, huh?)

    1. Bill Elder

    2. George Robinson

    3.Tony Pasquale

Everyone was great and what wonderful fun.

  7. First, let me say I’m shocked and honored to have been a finalist. My vote is as follows:

    1. Bruce Miles

    2. Scott Larson

    3. Joey D Williams

  8. I’m ok with voting anyway. :) I know it’s really hard for women to break into this kind of thing. If the judges didn’t feel any of the women were worthy of the top 10, I can accept their decision. This shouldn’t be a man/woman thing (though it always does kind of end up that way, doesn’t it?) – it should really be about who’s the best person for the job. Here’s my opinion:

    1) Bruce Miles (LOVE the personality he put into this. It really shone through.)

    2) Scott Larson

    3) George Robinson

As Roger says, everyone *was* great. This was a huge amount of fun. Thanks for putting it together, Peter!

  9. Girlcott! Ha! What is this, some kind of affirmative action exercise? I. Think. Not. :)

    1.) Bruce Miles
Great drama and fun in the read, with (as usual) a little flavuh and something different.

    2.) Mike Elmore
Has that edge, younger skew and excitement without it being contrived [but the mix is a bit off--music too loud]

    3.) Bill Elder
Ah, the notable, familiar, announcer read that has great depth and presence and is smooth and good.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    4.) Jeff Kafer
I thought his read posted among the 80 entrants was friggin’ good!

  10. 1. Joey Williams
    2. Robert Hanison
    3. Allen Scofield

Honestly, I liked the sound of all 10 finalists. Each was distinctive.

  11. 1) Tony Pasquale

    2) Bill Elder

    3) Joey Williams

  12. @Roger Tremaine congrats on being the first voter!
@Lee Gordon enjoy the honor – you earned with a performance that was judged by your peers to be excellent!
@Jodi Krangle I think that’s the right attitude, the judges treated this like a real audition (as I asked them and everyone who submitted to) and pick the best performances period…not regarding race, gender or anything except vocal performance. I think some folks may have forgotten that Connie Terwilliger was in the top three of the NBC Nightly News Unofficial Auditions NOT because she was female but because she was judged to among the best of ALL the announcers who auditioned…and she was!
@Diane Maggipinto – Mags, just so we’re clear, even though you have a baby on board, your vote only counts one time. And Jeff did give a great read.
@Chuck Davis I completely agree with your assessment of the finalists…each was distinctive

I’m so glad you all participated….it makes it all worth while. Thanks

Best to all of you always,
    - Peter

  13. OK…I’m ready!….after listening to them several times (& my husband coming in and asking me “WHY do you keep listening to that over & over again?”) my vote is cast!

    1) Bruce Miles
    Love his smile & ‘tude!

    2) Bill Elder
More of the familiar Announcer of this type of gig, but with something extra!

    3) Scott Larson
Loved how he bracketed my home town! :-)

Once again Peter, this was so much fun!
Can’t wait for the next one!!!!

    Peace!

    Liz

  14. After judging the 10 finalist on poise… intelligence… talent… and the bathing suit competition.

    1. Bruce Miles

    2. Tony Pasquale

    3. Allen Scofield

(I had to disqualify Bill Elder because he didn’t bring a bathing suit.)

  15. I am honored (and SHOCKED!) to have been included in the finalists! Thanks very much! Here are my choices:

    1. George Robinson
    2. Scott Larson
    3. Tie between Bruce Miles and Bill Elder

    Thanks again!
    Allen

  16. A lot of great reads out there. I really think the unofficial voice of Jimmy Fallon should clearly have a young edge/skew to the sound. So…that is why I chose my 9-year old daughter! Girl-cot! OK just kidding.

    1) Scott Larson

    2) Mike Elmore

    3) Robert Hanston

Good luck and thanks to everyone. Mags…you better bring it next time girl!

  17. @Liz de Nesnera More importantly- did your husband agree or disagree with your choices? Rememer, he’s welcome to vote too :)

@Jim Sutton um the visual, uh, gee, oh well let’s just quickly move on

@Allen Scofield you are welcome and you earned the honor, congrats.

@Chris Eder it would be a shame if a daughter beat out her professional Father in a VO contest but sounds like she could give you a run for your money.

My best to all of you always,
    - Peter

  18. 1. Bruce Miles
    2. George Robinson
    3. Bill Elder

Tough to pick, but I like the ones who believe they’re announcing the best damn talk show ever, and make you believe it too. Best of luck to all!

  33. 1. Mike Elmore
    2. Joey Williams
    3. Robert Hantson

(I hope the talent that really does end up being the voice for the show, doesn’t make fun of all of us. Ha!)

  34. My vote goes to Mike Elmore. He’s got some mean pipes and good chops.

Robert and Bruce were also very good. But, Mike Elmore is my choice.

    Great contest!

  35. Robert
    Bill
    Mike

  36. 1. Mike Elmore

  39. 1. Mike Elmore

    2. Bruce Miles

    3. Lee Gordon

    Elmore is awesome!

  40. This was so much fun to listen to! ALL 10 were GREAT! I can see why the judges had such a hard time narrowing them down from 80 entries. Sheesh. But ok, here are my 3 faves:

    1. Mike Elmore

    2. Lee Gordon

    3. Joey D. Williams

May the best fake announcer win!

  41. 1. Mike Elmore

    2. Joey Williams

    3. Tony Pasquale

You guys have too much time on your hands! lol

  42. 1. Robert Hanson
    2. Mike Elmore
    3. Bruce Miles

  43. 1: Elmore ….the gravel get’s me….very contemporary sound….and he hits the read on the first downbeat….way to jump right into the show.

    2: Robinson…wow energy

3:Pasquale…nice mid range guy next door voice….wrong for that show but watch out Joe Cipriano….is it an Italian thing?

  44. Fab contest. My vote goes to
    1. Bruce Miles
    2. Bill Elder
    3. Tony Pasquale

For verve, excitement, interest level, and yet not sounding “canned. or too over the top phony”

  45. 1. Mike Elmore
    2. Bruce Miles
    3. Joey Williams

  46. 1. Mike Elmore

    2. Tony Pasquale

    3. Allen Scofield

  47. 1. Mike Elmore

    2. Robert Hantson

    3. Bruce Miles

  48. 1. Mike Elmore – His read is something new and fresh. Gets your VERY excited for the show. He’s got tons of energy but doesn’t sound fake, annoying, or like a used car sales ad :)

    2. Lee Gordon – Like a gentle Don Pardo but not too over-the-top. His tone just really fits the announcer style read.

    3. Scott Larson – Add’s alot of character to the read and just makes it sound fun.

  49. 1. Mike Elmore

    2. Scott Larson

  50. 1.Mike Elmore

    2.Lee Gordon

    3.Scott Larson

A tough choice…all brought something special to the mix!

  52. 1) Mike Elmore
    2) Tony Pasquale
    3) Allen Scofield

  53. OK – I guess as long as I’m not voting for myself, I can cast a vote right? If not, count mine out… but if I had to choose 3 but not me…

    1) Tony P.
    2) Bill E.
    3) Bruce M.

Talk about tough, but this was “hecka fun” to say the least… looking forward to the next one Peter!

    M.E. is definately THE VOICE.

  67. haha…Thanks Mike…(he’s my brother)..just kidding
