It makes the old one look like a college art school project. The proportions are better, the "TV" is better-placed, and the amaterish outline on the V's protusion really needed to go. (I always thought the old logo looked a little to happy to see me.) When you know better, you do better. And it looks like someone at MTV finally knew better. Bravo!
