peteroconnell.com – i got my name back!

Voice-over web domains are funny things and I should know because I’ve had a ton of them. I’d come up with a cool idea and race to get the domain. The hundreds of dollars I’ve wasted on domains was, well, wasted.

Some people bought really smart voice-over web domains like Doug Turkel who owns voiceovertalent.com. Word on the street was that he may have had to perform unnatural acts to get that domain…like singing opera during a biker convention in Miami, but that’s just a rumor (that I just started in this sentence). Point is, it’s an awesome domain.

But of all the domains I ever registered, the one I could never get was peteroconnell.com. Years ago, I called the guy who had it and we had a very nice conversation…I can’t now even recall if his name WAS Peter O’Connell. He noted at the time he wanted to keep it and I told him to call me if he ever wanted to get rid of it. No call.

Fast forward to about three weeks ago and I get an email which smelled suspiciously like spam. It said the domain peteroconnell.com was up for auction and to click here blah, blah. So I emailed my web guy, who just LOVES hearing from me in the middle of of his weekend, to see if this offer was legit.

It was.

He asked me if I wanted to bid on it? I said I did and I threw out what I considered a low bid.

And I won.

That means I bid too damn high!

Idiot!!!!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

Anyway, I’ve had peterkoconnell.com for a long time but now peteroconnell.com is in the hands of his rightful owner and all is right with the world.

So here’s my question to you: of the web addresses you own, which is your most favorite? Also, which web domain would you most like to own that you don’t own now and why?

  1. Doug must have snagged that domain days before I went looking and was only able to get voiceover-talent.com.

But the one that has gotten the most hits is corporatevideo.com. I get emails every couple of months from people wanting to buy this domain from me. I can’t bring myself to sell it…even though I am not producing corporate videos any more.

There is another Connie Terwilliger out there now who probably is bummed that I have that domain. The only other Connie Terwilliger I have had contact with hated the name was was happy to change it when she got married. She wasn’t right in the head I think. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  2. Well, I do have elainesinger.com but I’d love to get soundsgreat.com. The business that has it seems to be going strong so it doesn’t look as if it’s in the cards right now.

I did notice one thing though. Not that long ago when I was searching for new domain names I discovered that ones that were available one day, were not the next. But you could bid for them the next day if you wanted to. So if you are searching for domain names, buy when you see it. Cuz there are people out there who will see it has been searched on and will snap it up before you know it.

  3. I managed to grab jerryreed.com very early in the game. At one time, I had hoped the well know performer that used the same name would offer to buy it from me for big bucks. (His actual name was Jerry Hubbard, but that’s another story.) No such luck. He ended up registering TheJerryReed.com, but gave it up long before he died. So, I have managed to have this one for at least the last 15 years. I also have jerrysvoice.com and jerrysvoice.net which redirect to jerryreed.com. I worked for Farm Bureau several years ago and the national organization owned FB.com. I read last year that they made $8.5 million and balanced the budget by selling that domain to guess who?

  4. I’ve got amysnively.com, but I missed getting amy.com way back when and have always wanted it. That said, I’ve long felt that peteroconnell.com was the holy grail, so congratulations!

  5. I own a bunch for the biz. Two of my favorites are: Zamit.com (big plans for this one) and JoeySpeakeasy.com, our happy test talent.

  6. I was blessed to have parents spell my name in an unconventional manner…which worked out really well in getting my domain. Plus, they picked the first letter of the alphabet…genius! =) I thank them and congrats to you, Peter for finally obtaining your domain!

  7. My favorite of the myriad that I own (yes…we seem to have wasted money together, Peter ๐Ÿ˜‰ ) is my HireLiz.com

It’s short, sweet & to the point and never fails to get a chuckle or a “That’s really great!” from clients when they first…well….Hire Liz! ๐Ÿ™‚

Yeah..I own LizdeNesnera.com…but who the heck is gonna spell THAT out! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  8. Thanks Amie. Some decades earlier, you could have had your name respelled by the officers at Ellis Island…lots of folks are walking around with centuries old name changes because the boys at Ellis Island couldn’t be bothered trying to spell the name the immigrant gave them!

    But your name is swell!

    Best always,
    –Peter

  9. Bob,

Those are great domains. I had to let go of many of mine…I just didn’t have time to flesh out the idea and the $ started piling up!

    Best always,
    – Peter

  10. Amy, I do feel as if I have come upon the Arc of the Covenant. And yet Indiana Jones is nowhere to be found!

    Go Figure.

    Best always,
    – Peter

  11. East bound and down, loaded up and truckin’,
We’re gonna do what they say can’t be done.
We’ve got a long way to go and a short time to get there.
I’m east bound, just watch ol’ “Bandit” run.

Oh yes Jerry, I did enjoy the song and the movie: https://blog.audioconnell.com/2008/09/06/eastbound-and-down/

    Best always,
    – Peter

  12. As you know Liz, I very much like hireliz.com. MANY marketing options there!

    Best always,
    – Peter

  13. Actually Connie, I think Doug came upon it like in the past two years….someone DIDN’T renew it. I may have that story wrong but that’s how i remember it.

    Best always,
    – Peter
