what is marketing

Is it the partner of sales? Is it the overlord of advertising?

Is it missing from your business? It depends on who you ask.

linda ristig’s blog added to the roll

I’m not sure how I missed it but I’m always late to most parties – voice talent Linda Ristig has a new (to me anyway) blog that I hope you’ll subscribe to.

I enjoyed visiting with Linda at VOICE 2010 and I know I’ll enjoy following her blog.

“get yur red hot photos!”

Voice Actors and the Internet Panel at VOICE 2010 (Back row i.e. the tall people) David Kaplan, Voice Over Xtra's! John Florian, Doug Turkel (front row i.e. the little people) Peter K. O'Connell, VOICE Co-founder James Alburger, Trish Basyani and VOICE Co-founder Penny Abshire

I’m not sure if they total a million but there certainly are a s—load of pictures from VOICE 2010 now available to look at.

After awhile -because there are SO many -it’s kind of like looking at someone’s vacation photos – more fun if you were there. And I gotta say, since I was there, it was a lot of fun to look at.

To add to the fun (cause they’re fun people) I’ll propose a new drinking game while looking at the photos – take a drink every time you see a photo with either of the co-founders of VOICE 2010 James Alburger or Penny Abshire. Take two drinks if you see them in the same photo.

If you view the album in calendar order, I think you’ll be truly drunk by the end of Wednesdays photos, blacking out by the end of Thursday’s album and in the hospital by Friday.

Actually, its probably safer if you look at the pictures without any drinks at all. šŸ˜‰

social media day in buffalo

So Wednesday was Social Media Day around the globe. As part of it, there were over 600 meet-ups and I went to the one in Buffalo (#smdayBUF) at Merge on Delaware Avenue.

I’ve been to countless networking events and unconferences and the like so I figured it would be fun but wasn’t really sure what to expect.

The venue was very nice and they even had a DJ spinning vinyl (old school Ć¢ā‚¬ā€œ nice touch). There was a registration table so you could get a name badge with your Twitter address (@audioconnell) and everyone was very nice….and very young.

There really is no age (as such) in the social media space but when reality checks in, when you meet people in person, you see the disparity in age right away.

That doesn’t mean social media is strictly for the young. It might mean that social media meet-ups are going to be populated primarily by young people who have the interest in going out (didn’t we all at that time in our lives); there’s nothing wrong with that nor was there anything wrong with me attending.

But aside from visiting with a few people I knew and meeting a few others, I just knew this wasn’t my place, my space. I’m glad I went but if I don’t go again, I won’t be missed and that’s OK…my place and hope for social media hasn’t faded.

Your mileage may vary.

happy birthday friends!

I’m not supposed to say this but I like your anthem better.

And here’s just another example of why…

MEDIA RELEASE – Audio on Video for audio’connell Voice Over Talent

audio'connell Media Release

BUFFALO, New York, June 29, 2010 – – Television and video have always been a part of audio’connell Voice Over Talent’s profession – it has been simply to provide the voice-overs for commercials, narrations and television promos’ — until now.

The company has unveiled its own YouTube Channel (http://www.youtube.com/audioconnell) that features examples of their client work as well as original voiceover-based videos. audio’ā„¢connell Voice Over Talent’s owner, Peter K. O’Connell, noted the new video channel helps explain even more clearly the services his company offers.

“We now have generations of visual learners in our world. Our company has been honored to support those visuals with our audio for a long time. So it seemed like a nature progression, given the technology now available, that we support our audio with visuals from client work we’ve completed. We hope it will give viewers a better context for how our audio was used and how it might be used to support an upcoming video project,”Ā O’Connell said.

In addition to video samples of client work featuring the company’s voice talent, Mr. O’Connell has also produced original videos about auditioning for voice over projects, producing audio for commercials and an exclusive tour of the recently opened Don LaFontaine Voice-over Lab in L.A.

The company will not be producing any client videos. “Anyone who watches one of the videos that we’ve produced will immediately understand why we are an audio company,” O’Connell chuckled.

audio’connell Voice-Over Talent is a worldwide, English language-based voice talent organization.
