Voice Over Master Don LaFontaine

Most folks in voice over are aware of who Don LaFontaine was and what an enormous impact he had on our industry. He was our public face and best of all our public voice.

Don’s friends and fellow voice talents Joe Cipriano and Paul Pape have been the leaders in establishing the Don LaFontaine Voice-over Lab inside the Screen Actors Guild Foundation. This will create a studio where union talents can attend classes and record free of charge. All this in recognition of Don’s legendary generosity to other voice talents.

I’m not a Union voice actor presently so I can’t use the facility…so why will I financially support it? Why am I asking you, my readers, to do the same?

Because, as Don knew and showed through his actions, it is the right thing to do.

For the full catalog of promotional videos promoting the Don LaFontaine Voice-over Lab inside the Screen Actors Guild Foundation, please visit the always enjoyable blog of George M. Whittam but in the meantime here’s a video of support for the Lab from one of Don’s very satisfied customers, Entertainment Tonight.

  1. Hi Peter,

My name is Michael Woodley. I am the Administrator for the Don LaFontaine Voice-Over Lab. I would like to thank you for blogging about the Lab. The ET video looks incredible on audioconnell.com.

I’m also writing to you because I would just like to clarify that the VO Lab will be available for union and non-union members. Members of the three unions (SAG, AFTRA, AEA) will have priority over the use of the Lab, while non-union members will be able to use the Lab for a nominal fee.

One of the many goals of the Lab is to provide aspiring voice-over artists with a space for creating a demo reel and attending workshops geared toward their needs. Although these services will be gratis for union members, non-union members may find that the fee is reasonable compared to the current standards of the voice over community.

Again, thank you for helping to spread the word about this amazing facility. We look forward to your continued support and I hope to see you at the Lab in the near future.

  2. Hi Michael,

Thanks first for reading my blog – sorry you missed the free t-shirt giveaway for new readers (kidding) – and second thanks for clarifying the use of the studio.

I won’t likely have need of it on my LA trip to the VOICE conference in a couple of weeks but I would like to stop by and see it…is that OK? Should I make an appointment?

Let me know and thanks again for the clarification.

    Best always,
    – Peter
