if yer logo ain’t broke…

This new MTV logo has the fresh, clean crisp smell of New Coke.
One letter brings this redesign all home for me: Y.
If you want to drop the work marks, OK, I get why. But the rest of it is a bastardization of a world-wide icon.
Please feel free to tell me I’m wrong and why. Or am I not being harsh enough?



Well, to my eye, the new MTV logo is stronger graphically all around. It makes the old one look like a college art school project.
The proportions are better, the “TV” is better-placed, and the amaterish outline on the V’s protusion really needed to go. (I always thought the old logo looked a little to happy to see me.)
When you know better, you do better. And it looks like someone at MTV finally knew better. Bravo!

You can take the girl out of art school, but you’ll never get art school out of this girl! Years of critiquing and being crtitiqued really scarred, er um, shaped me.
