less sleepless and more like “sick in seattle”

I am not one to shy away from sharing my unhappiness when I feel a product or service (or more likely customer service) doesn’t live up to realistic expectations (Best Buy!).

However, I am also very pleased to sing the praises for those whose customer service is wonderful and beyond expectations. To wit, I have a hotel recommendation for you:

January 10, 2009

Mr. William J. Shaw
President and Chief Operating Officer
Marriott International
Marriott Drive
Washington, D.C. 20058

Dear Mr. Shaw:

A frequent traveler and guest of Marriott properties, I felt it was important for you to know about a recent experience I had at SpringHill Suites Seattle Downtown.

Staying there with my clients for business meetings, I contracted food poisoning on December 4th (not from any food service at this or any Marriott property) which required me to go to the emergency room at a local hospital.

Due to my condition and my total lack of familiarity with the area, I relied heavily on the help of your hotel’s staff and they could not have been more accommodating. I was especially appreciative of the efforts of Louis Haslett, the General Manager, to see to my well-being.

I would be pleased if you would take the time to personally call Louis (and maybe his supervisor) to share my deep appreciation for his efforts and the efforts of his staff. Being really sick on the road is a bad experience but the team at SpringHill Suites Seattle Downtown made it much easier for me.

Sincerely,

(signed)

  1. Good heavens Peter, no fun to be sick and not at home. I’m so glad you had Louis to look after you. I’m especially glad you had Louis and not me – I hate sick people. And it is wonderful that you wrote this excellent letter. I hope Louis gets big kudos from the big boss.

Hope you’re feeling much much better.

    Mary

  2. Thanks Mary I do feel much better (if I didn’t after this long I’d probably be wearing a size 2 dress…oh wait, never mind 😉

Louis and his team were great. His boss should get my snail mail of this content this week.

It sucks being sick, worse being so weak and dependent but awesome that there are good people who will help you when you’re down and out of it.

    Best always,
    – Peter

  3. That was a really nice gesture, Peter.
    Good for you!

And glad you’re feeling better!…although hmmmm….seeing you in a size 2 dress MIGHT have been worth it! 😉

    Peace!

    L.

  4. Maybe, but I’d have to shave my legs.

    Best always,
    – Peter
